Episode 97: The NOVA Open 2019
In this episode, we talk about our experiences at the Nova Open 2019. We discuss the event itself including the venue, layout, and accommodations. We also talk about the Nova mission format and our game play experiences. Finally, we discuss changes to our armies moving forward and our plans for future events.
The 2019 NOVA Open was held over Labor Day weekend at the Hyatt Regency hotel, (although we stayed at the hotel across the street).
Accommodations
- Hotels and layout of the event
- Food Options
An army of volunteers, a guide book when you arrive with a floor map. Really well run event with a high attention to detail.
40K Grand tournament
9 games over three days, almost 300 players.
First 5 games; seeded into bracket of 16, so even if you drop you can’t go lower than the lowest in the bracket.
Brackets work with a true winner in each bracket.
Tables and Terrain
All tables the same, with 8 pieces of terrain. Nova “Ls” plus 2 hills, 2 ruins, 2, craters/forest. All provide cover.
3 color painted pieces, not bad, but mostly for function. Not as good looking as LVO or as themed; every table is exactly the same.
Organization
Started mostly on time, stuck to the schedule.
Milestone call-outs during the game; get a clock if slow.
Nova Missions
Primary; end game versus progressive.
Secondaries; easier than ITC mission, more clear.
How did we do?
What do we do next?
