In this episode, we talk about the Astra Militarum, or the Imperial Guard. In this first part of a two part podcast, we talk about the history of the Astra Militarum and an overview of how the army plays in 40K. We then discuss each of the regiments, including their history, rules, some interesting combinations, and units that play to their strengths.
A brief history of the Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard)
The Guard are the human face of 40K, they are often in 40K fiction because they are the army we can most relate to.
Because of the sheer variety of imperial worlds, a guard regiment can be anything you want it to be.
Astra Militarum General Rules
Voice of Command or Orders
Infantry Stats: 4+, 4+, S3, T3., but Veterans and Scions have BS 3+ and Ogryns have T5.
The most indirect fire in the game; Wyverns, Basilisks, Manticores, Earthshaker batteries, Deathstrike, and even simple Mortars, at ranges of 48” and up.
A ton of vehicle options; if you like the guard tank aesthetic, guard could be your army.
