Episode 106: Recap LVO 2020
In this episode, Mark talks about his experience at the Las Vegas Open 2020. He discusses the lead up to the event, the army he choose, and how his games went in the competitive 40K event. He also talks about what he learned about playing the game of 40K and his plans for future competitive 40K events.
Held at the Bally’s Hotel in Las Vegas for the 3rd straight year.
Over 800 players in the Competitive 40K championship, making it the single largest competitive event in the world.
Terrain on the tables: top 100 same table layout, my tables were almost all the same.
6 rounds over 2 days, Friday and Saturday. A 4th game for the 5-12 players to make it to the top 8.
My Road to LVO
Why I chose Eldar
- Had to bail on Marines in October
- Decided on Eldar in November after Psychic Awakening.
- December: pulled together the units I wanted
- Submitted the list in January, but had a lot to finish painting
So, Thursday was spent painting army, packing, and arriving at the hotel for registration.
6 Games at LVO
Friday: game 1 Patrick with Eldar, game 2 Sean with Imperial fists, game 3 Cody with chaos
BCP issues the first game.
Saturday: game 4: Ben, Game 5 Schuyler, Game 6 with Jeremy.
Sunday RTT: Game 1 with Andrew, Game 2 with Heath
Judges have the tools to actively enforce the rules, code of conduct.
With the BCP crash, they went way beyond the call of duty to keep the event going.
Final matchup between Richard Siegler and Brad Chester. Was it as good as last year?
The unkillable Leviathan dreadnought.
But.. most players won’t see that during their experience at an event.
Did LVO meet my expectations? Yes, as a social experience, a chance to get in 6+ games over a weekend, and to be immersed in Warhammer for a while it is always worth it and a must attend for me.
Take an army I enjoy and know how to play. Make sure I have a pool of units ready to test out as I narrow down my list. After Chapter Approved, get the list finalized and play for 6 weeks to get it ready.
Winning at least 3 games is really my goal, and to have a well painted army.
Meeting 6 great opponents is my other goal.
